Cuomo Launches “COVID-19 Report Card” for NY Schools
Yesterday, Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) announced the release of the “COVID-19 Report Card”, an online dashboard that will track COVID-19 infections in New York schools in real time.
Cuomo enacted an Executive Order forcing schools and testing sites to collect and report COVID-19 testing data for students and faculty at every school in the State. In addition to infection rates, the dashboard will also include information about each school’s number of students and staff on-site and the number of tests they’ve conducted to date, among other metrics.
“Facts empower people to make informed decisions for the health and safety of themselves and their families,” Cuomo said. “The COVID-19 Report Card will give parents, faculty and students the most up-to-date information on the status of their school and their school district’s testing and results. I urge our school communities to stay vigilant and be smart.”
The online dashboard will be live at https://schoolcovidreportcard.health.ny.gov.
Rosenthal Endorses Scott Stringer for Mayor
Yesterday, Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal (D-Upper West Side, Hell’s Kitchen) announced her endorsement of City Comptroller Scott Stringer (D) for Mayor.
Stringer had announced his candidacy earlier that day, at a press conference in front of Inwood Hill Park. In her endorsement, Rosenthal expressed confidence that as Mayor, Stringer will be a catalyst for progressive reform.
“Scott Stringer has shown himself to be a bold leader, a change maker and an indefatigable voice for vulnerable people,” said Rosenthal. “From his unwavering support for tenants, and his early advocacy for survivors of domestic violence, to his demand for and adherence to transparent and more accountable government, Scott has led the way. Scott Stringer is exactly who we need as our next Mayor, and I am proud to endorse him.”
Maloney Opens Investigation Against Louis DeJoy
Last Monday, U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens) released a statement confirming that the House will be investigating Postmaster General Louis DeJoy following allegations of campaign finance fraud.
As CEO of New Breed Logistics, DeJoy allegedly urged his employees to donate to Republican campaigns and rewarded them with bonuses for doing so. If the allegations are true, such an action would constitute an egregious violation of campaign finance law.
“If these allegations are true, Mr. DeJoy could face criminal exposure — not only for his actions in North Carolina, but also for lying to our committee under oath,” Maloney said in a statement. “We will be investigating this issue, but I believe the Board of Governors must take emergency action to immediately suspend Mr. DeJoy, who they never should have selected in the first place.”
Brewer to Attend Reopening of Museum of Natural History
Today, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer (D) will be greeting visitors at the reopening of the Museum of Natural History.
After closing down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Museum has finally decided to reopen its doors. Families in attendance will receive safety briefings and activity sheets from the museum’s halls. Tickets must be reserved online and will not be sold at the door.
