Maloney Endorsed by NOW PAC

Representative Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens) has received an endorsement from the National Organization of Women Political Action Committee (NOW PAC).

As a representative, Maloney’s record on women’s equality is admirable. She has used her position to champion the Equal Rights Amendment, close the gender pay gap, fight for a National Women’s History Museum and crack down on sexual assault in the military, among other things.

“As a feminist and champion of women’s rights, I’m honored to have NOW PAC’s endorsement and support,” said Maloney. “The work they do to elect feminists to office has literally helped change the face of our government and I’m excited to have them on board for my 2020 re-election campaign.”

Last Friday, New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) and New York Superintendent of Financial Services Linda Lacewell announced an agreement with South Carolina-based real estate company Vision Property Management, LLC for over $3.75 million in consumer restitution.

Vision Property Management engaged in an unlicensed mortgage-based business that targeted the elderly, the disabled, and other fixed-income tenants. The settlement includes $600,000 that will be distributed to several New Yorkers who were victimized by Vision.

“Vision’s illegal and deceptive practices that were targeted against New York’s most vulnerable residents will finally be put to an end,” said James. “Owning a home is what millions of New Yorkers dream of, but Vision turned that dream into a nightmare. Not only are we shutting down this company’s illegal New York racket, but we are securing restitution for the many victims and are ensuring 58 families have their mortgage debts wiped away.”

Velázquez Calls Trump Administration “Impulsive and Reckless” for Killing Soleimani

Representative Nydia Velázquez (D-LES, Brooklyn, Queens) released a statement on Thursday in advance of the House’s vote on the War Powers Act resolution.

Said resolution was a measure that would restrict the Trump Administration’s authority to attack Iran without congressional approval. It passed with a vote of 224 to 194.

“This Administration’s impulsive and reckless behavior has made our nation and the men and women of our armed forces less safe,” said Velázquez. “We should be clear – no one in this body – Democrat or Republican – will mourn the loss of Soleimani. He was a monster who was responsible for horrible atrocities.  However, we also have to question whether the actions taken by this Administration in killing him made our nation, our servicemembers and our allies safer or less safe.”
